James D Cooper is a partner in the Cravath Swaine & Moore LLP corporate department. Jim represents and advises banking clients in a wide variety of domestic and international financing transactions, including financings of mergers, acquisitions, recapitalisations and spin-offs, working capital financings and various special-purpose financings. He also counsels corporate borrowers negotiating financing arrangements with banks and other financial institutions.

Jim was cited as being one of the country's preeminent practitioners in the banking and finance arena in Chambers USA 2007: America's Leading Lawyers for Business. In addition, Cravath's banking and finance practice received the publication's highest ranking for its "incredible quality of legal advice".

Jim was born in Whittier, California. He received an AB summa cum laude from the University of Chicago in 1976, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and a JD from Yale Law School in 1979.
