Biography: Management Labour and Employment

John A Coleman is a senior partner at Ogilvy Renault LLP. He is managing partner of operations, a member of the executive committee and chair of the firm's management committee.

Mr Coleman practises employment and labour law. For the past 25 years, he has focused on matters pertaining to federally regulated industries such as banking, transportation and communications companies. He has appeared on numerous occasions before the Canada Industrial Relations Board, labour arbitrators and the courts, as counsel for major private and public sector clients.

Mr Coleman teaches Labour Law at McGill University. He is chair of the Council for Services to Children and Adolescents (CSCA) of the Montreal Children's Hospital of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). He is also secretary to the Quebec Rhodes scholarship selection committee. Mr Coleman is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, and was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 1981.

Some of Mr Coleman's selected client work include: lead labour counsel for CN in the process of CN's privatisation; counsel to the National Bank; counsel to Bell Mobility; counsel to the Maritime Employers Association; Counsel to Canada Post; Counsel to Brink's; and counsel to Aeroplan and lead labour and employment adviser in the creation of its income trust.

Mr Coleman received his LLB/BCL from McGill University, in 1980; as well as his BA (hons), in 1975; and his BA (Rhodes scholar), in Jurisprudence, from Oxford University, in 1978.
