Timothy Clark is co-chair of Covington & Burling LLP's private equity practice and is resident in the firm's New York office. Mr Clark represents a wide range of investment-fund clients on a global basis, with a focus on private-equity fund sponsors (including buy out funds, growth-equity funds, real-estate funds, synthetic secondary funds, private bank feeder funds and venture-capital funds), as well as institutional clients investing in private-equity funds. His sponsor-side clients range from select first-time funds to industry leaders engaging in multibillion dollar fund offerings. His representative clients include CCMP Capital, Eos Capital Partners, Tishman Speyer, Quad Venture Partners, Key Principal Partners, Pine Brook Partners, PPM America and JP Morgan Capital. In 2007, the firm's New York investment funds practice was involved in over $10 billion of fund offerings on behalf of its clients.
Mr Clark is listed as a leading investment funds lawyer by several industry publications, including Who's Who Legal: The International Who's Who of Business Lawyers, and is a member of the Private Investment Fund Forum. Mr Clark has written and spoken extensively on topics relating to investment funds, including issues relating to sponsor economics and governance, the Investment Company Act and trends in private-equity fund terms and conditions.
Mr Clark gained a BA from Wesleyan University in 1985, where he was in Phi Beta Kappa and was given the Heideman Award (Community Service). He gained his JD from New York University in 1988, cum laude. He also worked on New York University Law Review and was a member of Order of the Coif. He won the John Norton Pomeroy Prize and the Law Review Alumni Association Award.
