Biography: Construction

Steven M Charney is a managing partner of Peckar & Abramson, resident in the New York office. His practice includes representation of the US's most prominent contractors and construction managers. Mr Charney's combined experience in construction and in law afford a unique ability to counsel contractors and developers, from risk management to dispute resolution. He is widely sought after as a lecturer, often addressing emerging issues such as default insurance and relevant legislation.

Mr Charney has also led the construction community in regard to critical issues. Mr Charney led the Associated General Contractors of America to study mold related issues and vice-chaired a task force in drafting the industry's first guide to this problem. Mr Charney's efforts were instrumental in the enactment of legislation by the United States Congress to provide $1 billion in insurance to the contractors that conducted the World Trade Center recovery effort after 9/11.

Mr Charney is a Fellow of the American College of Construction Lawyers. He has been recognised repeatedly as a leading construction attorney, including recognition by Chambers USA, for the third consecutive year in its construction law section.

Mr Charney is a graduate of Seton Hall University School of Law. He received a Master of Science in construction management from the school of civil engineering at the New Jersey Institute of Technology and holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Syracuse University, with a minor in construction technologies.
