Philippe has been responsible for a large number of transactions notified to the European Commission under the EC Merger Regulation. His major recent deals include acting for Royal Caribbean in connection with its proposed merger with P&O Princess and Carnival's proposed takeover of P&O Princess; and acting for Bertelsmann in connection with the merger of its recorded music business, BMG, with Sony Music (unconditionally cleared twice after two detailed Phase II investigations).
He has extensive experience of UK competition law, including a number of Competition Commission investigations. He has advised Thomson Directories in relation to the recent Competition Commission market inquiry into classified directories and in relation to its complaint to Ofcom concerning BT's OSIS data pricing.
Philippe has broad experience of competition issues arising from the application of articles 81 and 82. He is currently advising Ericsson on its article 82 complaint to the European Commission concerning Qualcomm's patent licensing practices. He is also representing one of the defendants in the GIS cartel case.
He is the co-founder and co-president of the European Competition Lawyers' Forum, is fluent in French and has a reasonable knowledge of German.
