Biography: Competition

Riccardo Celli is the managing partner of O'Melveny & Myers LLP's Brussels office and head of the firm's European antitrust/competition practice.

Riccardo joined O'Melveny & Myers in June 2004 to establish the firm's Brussels office. His professional experience prior to O'Melveny includes six years in the Rome office of a major Italian law firm, followed by 15 years with international law firm Norton Rose, where he was managing partner of their Brussels office for eight years.

Riccardo has practised in Brussels since 1992 and has considerable experience advising on the full range of competition law, having worked for many of the world's largest corporations across a wide range of industries, particularly in the energy sector. Recent successful representations include: AMD in its complaint to the European Commission against Intel for violation of article 82; Norsk Hydro in obtaining merger control clearance in Europe for the merger of its oil and gas activities with Statoil; Norsk Hydro in securing Phase II EU merger control clearance for the sale of its polymer division to INEOS; and Honeywell International in obtaining multinational merger control clearances in relation to several transactions. He is also currently representing a defendant in the European Commission cartel investigation of the banana market.

Riccardo has spoken at many conferences and authored a number of articles on competition law and regulatory matters, especially in the energy sector. He is recognised as one of the world's leading lawyers in the field of competition law in many specialised publications.
