Biography: Corporate Tax

Bill Cavanagh, partner in Chadbourne & Parke LLP's New York office, specialises in corporate, partnership and international tax matters.

Mr Cavanagh advises a broad array of US and multinational clients on a wide variety of US and cross-border tax issues. He has worked extensively with clients in structuring and negotiating significant domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, spin-offs, project finance transactions, securities offerings, financial products and securitised loan transactions. He has also represented clients in numerous tax controversy disputes with the Internal Revenue Service and with various state and local tax authorities.

Mr Cavanagh is a frequent lecturer on tax planning and has written extensively on tax issues. He is currently chair of the New York University's 65th Annual Institute on Federal Taxation and previously served as chair of the 57th Annual Institute on Federal Taxation and the International Bar Association programmes on "Spin-offs and Split-ups" and "Negotiating Stock Purchase Agreements".

Mr Cavanagh is a former law clerk to the Honourable Arthur L Nims III, United States Tax Court. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association (Executive Committee, Tax Section), the American Bar Association, the International Bar Association and the board of advisers for New York University Institute on Federal Taxation.
