Manus Booysen is a partner and head of Webber Wentzel Bowens' mining, mineral and environmental law unit. Manus received a BA, LLB and MBA from the University of Pretoria and was admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa during 1983, and subsequently also as notary and conveyancer. He completed the University of the Witwatersrand's Constitution Law Programme for Attorneys and Advocates and served on the mining law committee of the International Bar Association's section on engineering, energy and resources law.
Manus advises a variety of clients on all aspects of mining and mineral law. His experience includes advising on, negotiating and conducting mining-related corporate transactions and black economic empowerment transactions, rendering opinions on mining, administrative and environmental law, mining-related litigation and arbitrations and due diligence investigations relating to listings and strategic acquisitions. Manus acts for a number of leading South African and international mining and energy companies.
Manus Booysen frequently addresses conferences on various aspects of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act and its implementation, as well as black economic empowerment issues and various other matters affecting the South African mining industry.
From 1988 until 1995 Manus was employed as in-house legal adviser of the Rand Mines Group, providing legal advice on all aspects of the Rand Mines Group's activities. From 1984 until 1988, Manus was employed as legal adviser for Total South Africa (Pty) Limited.
