Mr Bohrer received a BA from Duke University and a JD from the New York University School of Law. From 1982 to 1985, he was an assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, where he served as both chief appellate attorney and chief of the major crimes unit. He has held the position of adjunct associate professor of Law at Fordham University School of Law, where he taught Trial Advocacy.
Mr Bohrer is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and vice president of the New York Council of Defense Lawyers. He serves on the board of directors of the Legal Aid Society, and received awards in 2005 and 2006 for Outstanding Pro Bono Service for his advocacy. He is a member of the board of directors of the Fund for Modern Courts. Mr Bohrer has served on the criminal law committee of the New York City Bar Association.
Mr Bohrer is an author of the "White-Collar Crime" column in the New York Law Journal, and is on the board of editors of the White Collar Crime Reporter. He is the author of several books and law review articles.
