Biography: Banking
H Bruce Bernstein is a partner in Sidley's Chicago office. Mr Bernstein concentrates his practice in secured transactions and restructurings on behalf of commercial banks and asset-based lenders. He is a past chairman of the Illinois State Bar Association's commercial, banking and bankruptcy law section and a past chairman of the Chicago Bar Association's uniform commercial code committee. He is presently a member of the National Bankruptcy Conference, the American College of Bankruptcy and the American College of Commercial Finance Attorneys. From 1995 to 2001 he served as general counsel of the Commercial Finance Association, the international trade association for the asset-based lending and factoring industries. Mr Bernstein is a frequent lecturer on secured lending and bankruptcy topics and has written numerous articles on the Uniform Commercial Code and Bankruptcy Code and related topics. Mr Bernstein received his AB degree from Cornell University in 1965. He received his JD degree from Harvard Law School in 1968 and was admitted to the Illinois Bar in that year.
