Biography: Arbitration

Martin Bernet heads Schellenberg Wittmer's dispute resolution group in Zurich. His practice focuses on international litigation and arbitration, as well as insurance. He frequently acts as counsel in international arbitration cases and is regularly appointed as chairman and co-arbitrator. Martin Bernet's practice covers a broad range of issues including pre-litigation and pre-arbitration strategic advice, representation of parties in arbitration and court proceedings in cases related to, among other things, banking disputes, international commodity sales, joint ventures, distribution, post M&A disputes, corporate liability, insurance, enforcement of foreign judgments and asset recovery.

Martin Bernet is a past chairman of the international litigation committee of the International Bar Association. He teaches international commercial arbitration at the University of Zurich. In 2003, he was a member of the Swiss Bar Association's group of experts reviewing the draft for a new Swiss-wide Code of Civil Procedure.

Martin Bernet is fluent in German, English and French. He graduated Dr iur from the University of Zurich, and was admitted to the Bar in Switzerland in 1982. Martin Bernet has been a partner with Schellenberg Wittmer since 1989. Previously, he worked as a clerk at the District Court of Horgen, Canton of Zurich as an assistant and associate with Wehrli, Wiget, Lutz, Zurich, and as foreign associate in Washington, DC.
