Biography: Patents
Oscar M Becerril is a 1948 chemical engineering graduate of the University of Mexico School of Chemistry.Mr Becerril has been involved in the industrial property and transfer of technology areas since 1956. He is founder of Becerril, Coca & Becerril, SC. Mr Becerril became partner of counsel of the firm in May 2010. He specialises in prosecution and litigation of patents, trademarks, designs and other intellectual property items, and provides consulting, licensing of technology, intangible asset valuation, technological intelligence and legal corporate services, both nationally and internationally.
He has been president and vice president of the Mexican group of AIPPI; president, vice president and international delegate of LES-Mexico; and president of the Mexico-centre chapter of the IMIQ, among other positions. He has been recently awarded as a life honorary member of LES Mexico.
He is an active member of the following associations: LESI and its Mexican chapter LES Mexico; AIPPI; AMPPI; FICPI; INTA; ASIPI; IMIQ; and the Chemical Society of Mexico.
Since 1998 he has been named repeatedly as a world patent law expert practitioner.
In 1998, Edicoin awarded Becerril, Coca & Becerril, SC the trophy of International Commerce America 88. In 2003, the International Association of Marketing awarded the firm with the Golden Star for Entrepreneurial Merits. Since 2005, the firm has received Bizz Awards from the World Confederation of Business in recognition of its entrepreneurial excellence.
Mr Becerril has been a Rotarian since 1987, and has been honoured with relevant positions in his Rotary Club and his Rotary District for several years. Because of his humanistic and philanthropic actions both in his firm and in general society, on 8 April 2003 the Stratford International University conferred on him the grade of doctor honoris causa in humanities. He has been conferred in 2010 with the title of Honorary Life Member of LES Mexico chapter.
