Biography: Commercial Arbitration

David Bateson is a partner in the Hong Kong office of Mallesons Stephen Jaques, where he specialises in construction projects and dispute resolution.

His work involves all forms of project documentation and dispute resolution including arbitration, adjudication, litigation and mediation. He has resided in Hong Kong for 28 years, and has worked extensively throughout Asia.

David is an experienced mediator and arbitrator, and is on the panels of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, the Qingdao Arbitration Commission in China, the FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry) Arbitration and Conciliation Tribunal (FACT (India)), and Asia Pacific Regional Arbitration Group.

David is the author of the book Commercial Arbitration in Hong Kong, and is a Hong Kong correspondent for International Construction Law Review. He writes and speaks regularly on arbitration and litigation issues.

He is a Fellow and ex-vice president of the Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators.

David Bateson is a partner in the Hong Kong office of Mallesons Stephen Jaques where he specialises in construction projects and dispute resolution.

His work involves all forms of project documentation and dispute resolution including arbitration, adjudication, litigation and mediation.

David has been a resident of Hong Kong since 1980. He has extensive experience in acting on major projects in Asia for governments, developers, employers, contractors and sub-contractors.

David is the author of the book Commercial Arbitration in Hong Kong, and contributed to Arbitration in Hong Kong: A Practical Guide; and Chitty on Contracts - Hong Kong Specific Contracts.

He is a practising arbitrator, and is on the panels of Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry) Arbitration and Conciliation Tribunal (FACT India), and Asia Pacific Regional Arbitration Group (APRAG).

He lectures extensively, and is the Hong Kong correspondent for International Construction Law Review.
