Biography: Regulatory Communications

Ricardo Barretto Ferreira Da Silva was admitted to practise in São Paulo, Brazil in 1973. He graduated from São Paulo University (USP) Law School. In 1973 he attended the Institute of World Affairs, Connecticut, USA, and undertook graduate research work in taxation and corporate law at UND, USA, between 1974 and 1975. He is senior and managing partner at Barretto Ferreira, Kujawski, Brancher e Gonçalves - Attorneys at Law.

Ricardo is editor and co-author of numerous publications, including Computer Law in Latin America, published by the Computer Law Association Inc. He is co-editor of the book Doing Business in Brazil published by the ABA and author of the Brazil chapter of Getting the Deal Through: Telecoms and Media, 2000 to 2008 editions. Ricardo is listed in Telecommunications Industry Report, European Counsel Magazine, The International Who's Who of Business Lawyers, Guide to the World's Leading Telecommunications Lawyers, and Chambers Global, 2001 to 2008.

Ricardo was vice-chair of the Inter-American Law Committee of the Comparative Law Division of the ABA, 2001-2004. He is a member of board of directors of CLA, (1995 to 2001 and 2003 to 2005); vice-president of CLA (2002 to 2003); vice chairman of the Protection of Technology and Information Sub-committee of the Committee R of IBA, 2002 to 2004; executive vice president of the Brazilian Computer and Telecommunication Law Association (ABDI), 1989 to 1994, and president of ABDI for the years 1995 to 1998; representative of ABDI in the board of directors of the IFCLA-International Federation of the Computer Law Associations, with head office in Europe (for 8 years); and a member of the FCBA-Federal Communications Bar Association, Washington, DC.
