Robson Goulart Barreto was born in Rio das Flores, Rio de Janeiro, on 16 August 1962. He studied at the University of the State of Rio de Janeiro Law School (LLB, 1984) and at Getúlio Vargas Foundation (Corporate Law, 1985).He is a member of the Brazilian Bar Association (Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul and Ceará State chapters); American Chamber of Commerce for Brazil (Rio de Janeiro), Legislation Committee, member (1990 to 1996), chairman (1997 to 1998; 2003 to 2005) and general counsel and vice president (2005-2006; 2007-2008); member and director of the Centre of Studies for Law Firms.
Mr Barreto's main areas of practice are business law, communications and media, computers and software, telecommunications, finance, investments and mergers, acquisitions and divestitures.
He speaks Portuguese and English.

Robson G Barreto is a partner of the Veirano Advogados law firm with extensive experience in international corporate practice. He has been active representing several of the firm's clients in international commercial transactions, financial operations, structured planning and corporate affairs.He has worked extensively to set up the firm's practice in the areas of IT and telecommunications, and has also gained considerable experience through numerous transactions in telecommunications in Brazil, including regulatory actions involving the General Telecommunications Law and its regulations.
He is a member of the Brazilian Bar Association (chapters of the States Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul and Ceará) and the International Bar Association (IBA). He has served on the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) in the following positions: chairman (2009 to 2010); legislative committee member (1990 to 1996) and chairman (1997 to 1998 and 2003 to 2005); legal advisor (2005 to 2006 and 2007 to 2008). On the American Bar Association, he served as vice chairman (1992 to 1993) and chairman (1994 to 1995) of the Brazilian law subcommittee. He has also been a member of the ITechLaw (Computer Law Association) since 1996; Brazilian Association of IT Law and Telecommunications (ABDI) since 1992; director from 2003 to 2005 and tax advisory board member from 2007 to 2008; and member and director of the Center for Law Firm Studies.
