Biography: Commercial Arbitration

Babak Barin is a partner and co-head of the dispute resolution team at BCF LLP in Montreal. He is fluent in English, French and Farsi.

In 2006 Babak was identified by Global Arbitration Review as one of 45 leaders under 45 in the field of international commercial arbitration, and in 2007 he was listed by that same publication as 'highly regarded' among Canada's top 21 arbitration names. Babak is also listed in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, the 2008 edition of Best Lawyers in Canada and the 2008 edition of Lexpert/American Lawyer Media's Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada.

Babak has practised law in both common and civil law jurisdictions. He is admitted to practise law in Quebec, Ontario, Alberta and England & Wales. He has represented and continues to act for domestic and international private and state parties before arbitral tribunals and national courts in Canada in a variety of disputes, including new technology, biotechnology, energy, oil & gas and telecommunication. Babak has also acted as sole and party-nominated arbitrator in a number of international and domestic disputes.

Babak is a co-author of The Osler Guide to Commercial Arbitration in Canada (2006, Kluwer Law International), editor of the IBA mediation committee newsletter and a member of the editorial board of the IBA journal Dispute Resolution International. He has written and lectured extensively in the fields of domestic and international commercial arbitration law.

Babak was educated in Europe, the US and Canada.
