Biography: Mining

Christopher Baldwin is head of Lawson Lundell's mining group. Chris has over 30 years' experience and is ranked in Lexpert/American Lawyer Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada (eight consecutive years), Lexpert Guide to the Leading 100 Canada/US Cross-Border Corporate Lawyers in Canada, The Woodward/White Best Lawyers in Canada and International Who's Who of Business Lawyers (as one of the 20 most highly regarded mining lawyers globally).

Chris advises on acquisitions and dispositions of mines and mining companies and project development throughout Canada and the world, the exploration for minerals and development, construction and financing of mines (including diamonds, coal and uranium), royalties, marketing contracts, impact benefit agreements with aboriginals and environmental issues. His practice is expanding to include acting as an expert witness and as mediator in mining matters.

He is a member of the BC and Yukon Chamber of Mines, past member of the board of trustees of Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation and Form 5 revision committee, and currently the reporter covering Canada for the foundation's Mineral Law Newsletter. He attended the University of Alberta (BA, 1973), the University of Toronto (JD, 1976) and is licensed to practise in British Columbia (1977), Northwest Territories (1994) and Nunavut (1999).
