Biography: Commercial Arbitration

Hans Bagner is a senior partner of the Swedish law firm Vinge. He works in the international litigation department, specialising in international commercial arbitration and general dispute resolution.

Hans obtained his law degrees at Stockholm University and the University of Michigan Law School, and has also worked with Squire Sanders & Dempsey in Cleveland, Ohio.

Between 1996 and 2002 Hans was the Swedish member of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris. He is currently a member of the panel of arbitrators of the International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR), the international division of American Arbitration Association, and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in London. Hans has also participated as a speaker/panellist at international conferences dealing with various arbitration topics. He was recently elected to the executive committee of the Swedish Arbitration Association.

Hans has extensive and wide-ranging advocacy experience in both court and arbitral proceedings and regularly acts as the chairman or member of international arbitral tribunals. He has since the mid-1970s served as party counsel or arbitrator in more than 100 international commercial matters before the ICC International Court of Arbitration, the London Court of International Arbitration, AAA, SCC, or ad hoc arbitrations.

Hans frequently publishes articles on international arbitration, and recent publications have included the ICC Bulletin, the Journal of International Arbitration and Mealey's International Arbitration Report, of which the latest deals with arbitrator impartiality (Mealey's, June 2006). He has over the years had articles published concerning arbitration issues in Sweden, the UK, the US and China.

Hans Bagner divides his time between the Stockholm and London offices.
