Dan M Öwerström is a senior partner and the chairman of the board of directors of MAQS Law Firm. He is the head of the insurance and reinsurance group. Mr Öwerström has merger and acquisition experience across a broad range of industries. Since 1990 he has focused on transactions involving insurance and reinsurance companies.

Mr Öwerström worked in Swedish industry for 18 years before he returned to private practice. His last position, which he held for almost 10 years, was senior vice president and general counsel for one of Scandinavia's largest financial groups, Trygg-Hansa AB. He represents insurance and reinsurance companies in significant transactions and disputes arising from property and casualty, life and health, captives, etc. Mr Öwerström has made acquisitions and set up companies all over the world, especially in eastern Europe.

Mr Öwerström was admitted to the Swedish Bar Association in 1999. He currently serves as a director of the International Chamber of Commerce Financial Service Committee. He is also a long-standing member of the Swedish Maritime Lawyers Association which dates back to the time when Mr Öwerström was an associate professor of law at Gothenburg University, where he taught among other subjects Export Trade Law. He is well known in the Swedish business community for his ability to manage complicated and sensitive transactions. He is named in several publications as a leading expert on mergers and acquisitions, banking and finance, as well as insurance and reinsurance.

Mr Öwerström holds several degrees: LLB, LLM, BSc and an MBA. Between 1982 and 1983, Mr Öwerström went to graduate school at the law faculty of McGill University in Montreal, Canada.
