David A Attisani is chairman of the insurance and reinsurance practice group at the law firm of Choate Hall & Stewart, which includes 20 lawyers who represent reinsurers, cedents, intermediaries and P&C companies in matters venued throughout the US, Bermuda, and the UK. Mr Attisani is also co-chairman of the ABA's Reinsurance Subcommittee. Among other significant and successful reinsurance engagements, he served as counsel in: Compagnie de Reassurance v New England Re (1st Cir 1995) (fraudulent inducement, RICO, net retention); Odyssey Re (London) v Stirling Cooke Brown (SDNY 2000) ("Sphere Drake") (personal jurisdiction, fraud); and Commercial Union v Swiss Re America (D Mass 2003) (annualisation of limits).
Mr Attisani graduated magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from Williams College and cum laude from Harvard Law School. He also studied English literature at Oxford University in Oxford, England. Before starting his practice, Mr Attisani served as a law clerk in the US District Court for the SDNY. In 1997-98, he was a special assistant district attorney in Suffolk County, Massachusetts.
Mr Attisani has served on the faculty at Mealey's Reinsurance, ARIAS, the ABA Insurance Coverage Litigation Midyear Meeting, the PwC/Hawksmere Reinsurance Congress (Bermuda), and other seminars. He has written several articles, including: "Reinsurance Security Rules Need Scrutiny" in Business Insurance (October 2003) and "Reinsurance Coverage for Declaratory Judgment Expense", in The Journal of Reinsurance (2001).
