Biography: Competition

D Jarrett Arp is a partner in the Washington, DC office of Gibson Dunn & Crutcher, where he specialises in antitrust counselling and complex litigation defending domestic and international clients before US courts. Mr Arp also has significant experience with respect to domestic and international cartel investigations, representing clients in numerous grand jury investigations, leniency applications, and related proceedings. He regularly advises clients in a broad range of industries with respect to mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, information sharing activities, pricing conduct, vertical restraints, franchising, and other competition law matters.

Recent representations include arguing and obtaining a dismissal with prejudice in Latinoquimica v Akzo Nobel et al, a class action alleging price fixing and filed in the US federal court in New York on behalf of worldwide foreign purchasers of an industrial chemical; and arguing and obtaining a unanimous reversal and dismissal by the South Dakota Supreme Court in Frankenfeld v Crompton Corp et al, an indirect purchaser class action asserting price-fixing claims under state law against certain chemicals manufacturers.

Mr Arp is editor-in-chief of the Antitrust Report (Lexis/Nexis), an associate editor of Antitrust magazine, and an editor of Competition Laws Outside the United States. Mr Arp taught antitrust law as an adjunct professor of law at Washington & Lee University Law School during 2002-2005. He regularly speaks and writes concerning a variety of competition law subjects.

Previously an officer with the US Army's 101st Airborne Division, Mr Arp is a graduate of Wheaton College (BA) and William and Mary (JD), where he served as executive editor of the William and Mary Law Review.
