Biography: Competition

Joseph Angland is a member of the Global Antitrust/Competition Group at White & Case LLP. During 2006 and 2007, Mr Angland served as chair of the American Bar Association's section of antitrust law - the world's largest association of competition lawyers. He previously served as the principal editor of Antitrust Law Developments, the section's treatise on United States antitrust law. He also served on the section's council and as officer in charge of the section's programmes and committees. Mr Angland regularly lectures on both substantive antitrust issues and litigation techniques, and he has contributed to dozens of antitrust publications.

Mr Angland has litigated antitrust and other complex commercial cases for 30 years. His antitrust litigation and counselling work has extended to numerous industries, including alcoholic beverage, automobile, banking, communications, medical equipment, mortgage, petroleum, pharmaceutical, power equipment, semiconductor and software industries. He has extensive experience in cases raising issues of monopolisation, predatory pricing, refusals to deal, price fixing, distribution arrangements and tying.

Mr Angland has also advised clients with respect to antitrust issues relating to joint ventures and mergers, including his representation of Chrysler Corporation in its merger with DaimlerBenz.

Mr Angland received his JD from Harvard Law School in 1975 and his BS in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1972. He is a member of the Bars of New York and the District of Columbia, and is admitted to practise before numerous federal courts.
