Biography: Aviation

Lawrence Fubara Anga is admitted to practise law in Nigeria, England and Wales and Ghana.

He heads the transportation as well as the banking and financial services practice groups of ÆLEX. He advises on financial, corporate and commercial issues that affect projects and companies in the aviation, oil, gas, power, mining, banking and financial services sectors. He advises clients from around the world on direct and portfolio foreign investment in Nigeria. He appears as counsel before all superior courts in Nigeria and has acted as counsel or party appointed arbitrator in several arbitration proceedings.

Fubara has a developed aviation and shipping and logistics practice. He represents several aviation clients in matters pertaining to the acquisition of aircraft and other equipment. He is counsel to five international flag carriers and several other entities involved in aviation in Nigeria. He advises and represents them in relation to regulatory, aero-political, competition, commercial, insurance, product liability issues. He handles passenger and cargo claims and advises on other aspects of doing business and operating in Nigeria.

He was an honorary delegate for Nigeria at the 5th ICAO World Air Transport Conference held in Montreal, Canada in March 2003, and at the 35th General Assembly of ICAO, Montreal, October 2004. He was invited by the World Bank as an expert to a joint workshop with ATAG and ICAO on "Maximising Civil Aviation's Economic Impact" at Montreal in June 2005. He is currently advising the industry on the review of Nigerian Civil Aviation Act.

He is the founder and current president of the Nigerian Aviation Law Society. He is also the chairman of the Aviation sub-committee of the Nigerian Bar Association.

He received his BA in economics and political science from Yale University in 1980, his BA in Law from Cambridge University in 1983, and his MA in Law from Cambridge University in 1988.
