Mr Amenábar V was a member of the Chilean Association Committee, which discussed with the authorities the amendment of the current Chilean Industrial Property Law No. 19,039 of 1991, and a member of the Edition Commission of the Industrial Property Bill, submitted to the Chilean government by the association in 1999, in order to update and adjust the local law to the TRIPS agreement. He represented the Chilean Association as a guest of the Economy Commission of the Chamber of Industrial Property Law Amendment. He was in charge of the subject of Intellectual Property in the Masters course of Corporate Law in the Chilean Catholic University during 2006 and 2007. In 2008 he taught Intellectual Property Law in the Economic Law Masters course in the Chilean Gabriela Mistral University.
Mr Amenábar V has been director and chairman of the Trademarks Committee of the Inter-American Association of Industrial Property (ASIPI), and a member of INTA's treaty promotion subcommittee. Since November 2006 he has been honorary president of ASIPI.

Sergio Amenábar V is an attorney-at-law and senior partner of Estudio Federico Villaseca in Santiago of Chile, founded in 1916. He studied at the Universidad Católica de Chile. Mr Amenábar was chairman of the Inter-American Association of Industrial Property. He was chairman of the Chilean Association of Industrial Property, Chilean Group of the AIPPI. He is a frequent author and his recent papers include: The PCT and its Application in American Countries, Critical Analysis of the Patent Law, Madrid Protocol and TLT, Observance of Intellectual Property Rights on TRIPS and WIPO's Treaties, and Weakness and Strength of Intellectual Property in Latin America.
