Biography: Construction

Ross J Altman is a partner in the Chicago office of DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary LLP. His practice is focused on matters pertaining to construction, real estate and international sales, and he chairs the transactional side of the firm's construction law practice group. He has counselled clients in connection with projects such as large industrial and process engineering facilities, resorts and hotels, shopping centres, highways, stadiums, hospitals, commercial and residential high-rise structures, interior build-outs, façade restorations and mixed use developments. Mr Altman has worked on projects located throughout North America, South America, Europe and Asia. He was part of the legal team that handled an arbitration in Singapore involving multiple EPC contracts and several hundred million dollars in claims, and led the negotiations which ultimately resolved that matter successfully. Mr Altman also has significant experience working with companies in chapter 11 bankruptcy and international insolvency matters. He is an adjunct law professor teaching a class in drafting and negotiating design and construction contracts, a fellow in the American College of Construction Lawyers, and an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association.
