Biography: Capital Markets

Thomas W Albrecht is the managing partner for the Asia-Pacific region and is based in Sidley's Hong Kong office. Mr Albrecht is a member of the firm's management and executive committees and is the co-head of the global structured finance and securitisation practice. His practice includes secured financings, structured finance transactions, restructurings, workouts and cross-border financings and securitisations. His clients include investment banks, commercial banks, multinational corporations and insurances companies. He has assisted in the financing of a wide variety of assets, including trade receivables, credit cards, consumer loans, motor vehicle loans and leases, wholesale and dealer inventory loans, equipment leases, structured settlements, collateralised loan transactions, collateralised bond obligations, catastrophe bond transactions, royalty payment streams, future flows and life contingent contractual cash flows. Mr Albrecht's practice has recently included a number of whole business securitisation transactions, cross-border finance transactions utilising bilateral investment treaty structures, distressed asset purchases involving a variety of purchasers and assets, and workouts and restructurings including for Asia-based companies.

Mr Albrecht has been recognised by several publications, including Chambers Global and Chambers USA, as a leading lawyer. Mr Albrecht is the co-author of 'Corporate Loan Securitization: Selected Legal and Regulatory Issues', Duke Journal of Comparative & International Law (Spring 1998) and author of 'Securitising Receivables: Protecting Against Bankruptcy', International Financial Law Review (September 1990).

Mr Albrecht received his JD, (cum laude, Order of the Coif) from the University of Chicago Law School in 1979 and his BA (summa cum laude) from the University of Dayton in 1975. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association and the American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers. He is admitted in Illinois and is a registered foreign lawyer in Hong Kong.
