Biography: Insurance & Reinsurance

David Alberts is the managing partner of Lovells' New York office. David's practice focuses upon corporate and regulatory insurance and reinsurance advice for the life, non-life and financial services industries. For the past 15 years, David has advised insurers, reinsurers and other financial institutions around the world. His practice includes regulatory and legislative advice, new product development and contract wordings, financial guarantee and credit enhancement, cross-border reinsurance and collateralisation, evaluation and management of run off liabilities, and development and implementation of exit strategies such as liability based restructuring, financial reinsurance and portfolio transfers. David spent much of 1994-1996 in London as US legal adviser to Lloyd's on the formation of Equitas Ltd. He is Lovells' lead partner in the firm's role as reinsurance counsel to the American Council of Life Insurers.

David has authored or co-authored several articles and has spoken at numerous reinsurance seminars, conferences and workshops in the US, Bermuda, the UK and continental Europe.

David is admitted to practise in New York and Illinois. He received his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service and his law degree (with distinction) from the University of Iowa, where he was editor-in-chief of the Transnational Law & Contemporary Problems Journal.
