Biography: Competition

George Addy leads Davies' competition and foreign investment review practice and is also a member of the technology and communications and media groups. He focuses on all aspects of competition law including strategic advice and representation before competition authorities dealing with cartels, mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, abuse of dominance and other reviewable matters. He provides advice and representation on legal and regulatory requirements to firms seeking to invest in Canada. He also frequently provides strategic and legal advice to firms in the telecom, broadcasting and internet sectors.

George has represented clients in numerous provincial and federal court proceedings and judicial inquiries. Clients include private sector clients, the Canadian Competition Bureau, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission and the attorney general of Canada. George has also frequently testified before the House of Commons and Senate committees.

Prior to joining the firm in 2002, George was head of the Canadian Competition Bureau's mergers branch from 1989 to 1993 when he was appointed head of the Bureau. In 1996 he left public service to become executive vice president and chief general counsel with TELUS Inc, Canada's second-largest telecommunications company.
