Biography: Competition

George is a partner head of Davies' competition and foreign investment review group. Before joining the firm, George was head of the Competition Bureau's mergers branch from 1989 to 1993 and was appointed by Canada's cabinet to head the Competition Bureau in 1993, a position he held until 1996. George returned to the private sector in 1996 as executive vice president and chief general counsel with TELUS, Canada's second-largest telecommunications company. George later returned to private practice and joined the firm in 2002.

Consistently listed as one of the most frequently recommended competition law practitioners, he has recently been recognised as one of the top 25 competition and antitrust counsel in the world by Euromoney Legal Media Group's The Best of the Best. George is also recognised as a leading lawyer in Chambers Global's The World's Leading Lawyers and is listed as a leader in PLC's Which Lawyer? Yearbook. He is listed in LEXPERT/American Lawyer Media's Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada, LEXPERT's 2005 Guide to the Leading 100 Canada/US Cross-Border Litigators in Canada and its 2005 Guide to the Leading 100 Canada/US Cross-Border Corporate Lawyers in Canada. George has received Martindale-Hubbell's highest rating.

George is vice chair and member, executive board of the business industry advisory committee to the OECD; director, Canadian Chamber of Commerce and chair of its policy committee; and a member of the LSUC, LSA, CBA, ABA and IBA.

He was called to the Bars of Ontario (1979) and Alberta (1999).
