Biography: Construction

Richard L Abramson is a founding partner of Peckar & Abramson. He has enjoyed a distinguished career with substantial success in highly complex litigations and arbitrations, serving as lead counsel in more than 30 cases that have been tried to conclusion, of which at least 20 have been jury trials. He also has resolved several complex multiparty disputes through negotiation, mediation and other alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.

Mr Abramson has successfully handled numerous cases in the state and federal courts of New York and New Jersey and in other states on a pro hac vice basis, and in the US court of federal claims and before international and domestic arbitration tribunals. Most notably, he has obtained recoveries in two matters on behalf of general contractors against agencies of the US government, totalling in excess of US$40 million and a recovery on behalf of a general contractor against a foreign power authority in excess of US$100 million. Additionally, he succeeded in defeating serious claims asserted by a prominent pharmaceutical company against an international design firm, totalling US$20 million, and was even able to obtain an affirmative recovery in excess of US$4 million on behalf of the design firm. He has also successfully defended a large number of general contractors with respect to subcontractor claims, totalling, in many cases, more than US$5 million.

Mr Abramson's successes have resulted in him being recognised by Best Lawyers in America, New York and New Jersey Super Lawyers for construction law as well as by Chambers USA – America's Leading Lawyers for Business 2007, as an "excellent and very professional construction dispute specialist".

He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Madison and Brooklyn law school, where he was editor of the Brooklyn Law Review.
