Biography: Commercial Arbitration

Cecil Abraham is a consultant with Zul Rafique & Partners. With more than 35 years of legal experience, Mr Abraham appears frequently as arbitrator in domestic and international arbitrations conducted under the UNCITRAL, ICC, SIAC, KLRCA and LCIA rules of arbitration. He has acted for the government of Malaysia in an ICSID arbitration and is on the panel of various international arbitral institutions. He also appears as counsel in domestic and international arbitrations.

Mr Abraham is a council member of the International Council of Commercial Arbitration (ICCA), the current vice-president of the Asia Pacific Regional Arbitration Group (APRAG) and deputy chairman of the Malaysian Institute of Arbitrators (MIArb). He is an accredited mediator, a member of the International Maritime Conciliation and Mediation Panel (IMCAM) and is on the panel of the Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA).

Mr Abraham graduated in 1968 with an LLB Honours from Queen Mary College, University of London and was called to the English Bar by the Honourable Society of Middle Temple in 1969. He was admitted to the Malaysian Bar in February 1970. A Fellow of Queen Mary, University of London and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Mr Abraham is also a chartered arbitrator.
