The landscape for US employment and labour law remains more volatile and contentious than that of any other major industrialised country.
The end of the employment relationship often raises a number of issues regarding obligations of both the employer and employee. Recent developments in case law in Australia have raised interesting issues surrounding the employment relationship, and later we deal with issues relating to fixed term contracts and the ownership of inventions.
This article deals with the dismissal of white-collar employees hired for an indefinite period. While most foreign companies are rightly convinced that Belgian dismissal law is very protective of the employees, it should be stressed that Belgian law allows an employer a very high degree of flexibility in removing individuals from their posts.
