GLEISS LUTZ

Gleiss Lutz is a well established full service law firm with over 280 lawyers at its disposal across six offices in Germany and one in Brussels. Gleiss Lutz prides itself on its ability to provide clients with top quality advice and an excellent service, and this strategy ensures that the firm is trusted by leading German and international businesses and public authorities. In addition, the firm maintains a global network of associated firms that it uses to great effect to ensure a client’s international needs are met. The firm achieves 36 listings in 15 chapters.

The firm’s strongest showing is in the competition chapter where it receives seven listings. Leading the firm’s competition practice is Ingo Brinker, a “first rate” lawyer focusing on merger control investigations, litigation and compliance programmes. Rainer Bechtold is “vastly knowledgeable” in both German and EU antitrust law and has been involved in significant cases before the German Federal Cartel Office and the European Commission. Matthias Karl is “highly recommended” for his experience in merger control and distribution law and Christian Steinle is “well known” for his work on cartel cases and private antitrust litigation.

The firm’s “star” performer is Gerhard Wegen who appears in three chapters: arbitration, corporate governance and M&A. Wegen is “well known” for his work on cross border deals as well as being “highly recommended” in complex disputes.

Five further names appear in the corporate governance chapter including Christian Cascante and Andreas Rittstieg, both of whom are equally highly recommended in the M&A chapter. Cascante is head of the firm’s corporate and M&A practice and is considered “excellent” in advising on public takeovers and cross border transactions. Rittstieg is “first class” in M&A as well as being a “highly regarded” corporate litigator.

In the management labour and employment section, five lawyers are selected for inclusion: the largest contingent of any firm in this sector. Jobst-Hubertus Bauer specialises in negotiations with works councils and unions as well as advising management boards on the termination of service contracts and is a “leading practitioner” according to our research. Former managing partner Martin Diller focuses his practice on pensions and is “widely recognised” as a “market leader” in this field.

The firm’s dispute resolution practice is “highly regarded”. Stephan Wilske gains recognition in the arbitration and commercial litigation chapters. He specialises in project and M&A disputes and his cross border litigation practice is “outstanding”. Further recognition in the commercial litigation chapter goes to the “brilliant” Stefan Rützel who heads the firm’s dispute resolution practice.
