One of the largest law firms in Latin America with 336 lawyers at its disposal, Pinheiro Neto Advogados is one of the most well-established firms in Brazil. Founded in 1942, the firm has a network of offices in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Brasília. Its impressive client list includes leading investment banks JP Morgan, Santander and BTG, and corporates Odebracht, Chevron, Kraft and Carrefour. The firm has a strong presence in the capital markets, commercial litigation, M&A, project finance and public procurement chapters in particular.
An impressive total of five lawyers are listed in the commercial litigation chapter, including the coordinator of the litigation department Celso Cintra Mori, who has 35 years experience in administrative and judicial litigation. André Zonaro Giacchetta is a specialist in intellectual property rights and Marcelo Marques Roncaglia is “well known” for his tax expertise. Bianca Pumar Simões Corrêa focuses on civil and commercial litigation matters including IP, contract law and bonds. Gilberto Giusti appears for his civil and commercial litigation experience in administrative and public procurement law. He also features in the arbitration and aviation chapters, and is the vice chairman of the arbitration committee at IBA.
Four names feature in the M&A section, among them managing partner Alexandre Bertoldi, who is also listed in the capital markets and private funds sections. His recent work includes the LAN-TAM airline merger in which he represented LAN. Fernando Alves Meira, a “definite inclusion” according to our interviewees, is also noted for his corporate governance expertise. Carlos Alberto Moreira Lima Jr, whose recent work includes helping Pfizer to acquire 40 per cent of a Brazilian rival for US$240 million, also earns recognition for his corporate governance work. Álvaro Martins dos Santos is noted for his “exceptional practice” in this field.
The firm boasts three strong lawyers in the capital markets listings. This chapter further includes Alexandre Bertoldi who has represented clients such as Lloyds and BASF. Henrique Silva Gordo Lang appears for his knowledge in IPOs, tender offers and private equity investment. Ricardo Simões Russo is well known for his securities markets work.
The project finance chapter includes Julio Cesar Bueno who is well placed to assist clients with his construction law and real estate expertise. Ricardo E Vieira Coelho has a wealth of knowledge across a broad range of areas including energy, oil and gas, capital markets and insurance, making him a “very valuable asset” to his clients. Marcelo Viveiros de Moura, also featured in the energy chapter, is a “talented individual” who is experienced in a variety of areas of law.
The lawyers listed for project finance each make an additional appearance in the public procurement chapter, with the addition of Ricardo Pagliari Levy, making Pinheiro Neto Advogados the stand out firm for this sector. Pagliari Levy is experienced in government procurement and administrative contracts and is an associate member of the Procurement Law Academic Network.
