Founded in 1972, Machado Meyer Sendacz e Opice Advogados is one of the strongest firms in Brazil. With around 300 lawyers and offices across the country, as well as an office in New York, it is a major player in the market. José Roberto Opice, a “titan” of the Brazilian bar, is known for his “legendary corporate ability”. He appears in five chapters. His “in-depth knowledge across a host of areas make him a first class lawyer”. Joining him in the capital markets chapter is Daniel de Miranda Facó who is hailed as “one of the country’s finest lawyers” and is particularly renowned for his work in equity capital markets. Also featuring is Eliana Helena de Gregorio Ambrosio Chimenti who acted as deal counsel when Votorantim Cimentos Brasil made a 1 billion reais bond offering.
The highly regarded Carlos Jose Rolim de Mello also appears in multiple chapters. An authority when it comes to capital markets and M&A matters, he is hailed for the “strength of his technical expertise”. Praised for having one of the best M&A practices in the country, he advised Petrobas as its subsidiary Braskem brought a stake in Quattor creating a new US$16 billion company. In addition, he features in the private funds chapter alongside the “first-rate” Nei Schilling Zelmanovits.
One of the firm’s founding partners, Antonio Corrêa Meyer, is a well respected name in the marketplace. Performing well in our research as one of Brazil’s most highly nominated project finance lawyers and also featuring in our public procurement chapter, he is described as “a leader in the field”.
