Irish competition expert joins Amarchand & Mangaldas in New Delhi
John Handoll has joined Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co after 16 years of service at William Fry in Dublin.
He joins the New Delhi base as a senior advisor where he will counsel the firm’s clients on European and competition law matters.
Previously the head of competition at William Fry, Handoll has counselled in major mergers such as BSkyB and Virgin, Stena and DFDS and Greencore and Northern Foods. He also specialises in telecoms has often advised Ireland’s telecoms regulator ComReg.
Handoll admits that he had been “contemplating a move to one of the larger emerging economies” and that the opportunity to work in India with a leading law firm there was “irresistible”.
“I’m now starting to look into a variety of competition matters with my new colleagues. There’s a huge interest in competition law and policy in India, with important differences between Indian competition law and the rules in Europe. So there’s a lot of learning to be done,” he adds.
