Weil appoints leading arbitration team in DC
Weil Gotshal & Manges has welcomed a team of four arbitration lawyers in Washington DC, including Arif Hyder Ali and Alexandre de Gramont.
Both arrive from Crowell & Moring LLP.
Speaking about the new addition, executive partner Barry Wolf said: “This group of partners helps further position our practice in the global market to mirror the needs of our clients,” adding that “We are happy to welcome each of these accomplished practitioners to Weil.”
Joining as co-chair of Weil Gotshal’s international arbitration practice alongside Juliet Blanch in London, Ali has said that he was attracted to the firm by its “vision of a truly global arbitration group with co-heads from each side of the Atlantic”.
“Juliet and I have often discussed our vision for a world-leading international arbitration practice,” he adds “My partners and I are thrilled to be joining forces with Juliet and her team and look forward to implementing our common vision of an integrated international arbitration practice operating across Weil’s multi-jurisdictional international platform.”
Ali, formerly the chair of Crowell & Moring’s international arbitration practice, has represented clients in a number of commercial and investor-state international arbitrations, specifically within the energy, hydrocarbons and minerals industries.
For over ten years Alexandre de Gramont has handled arbitration matters in leading international courts including under ICSID, ICC, LCIA and ICDR rules.
He has represented clients in disputes arising from transactions and investments in a variety of industries including oil and gas, mining, infrastructure, transportation and entertainment.
“This team has the reputation, trial expertise and experience to work on the most complex, global cases, affording Weil an even greater bandwidth to serve future growth,” said Jim Quinn, co-chair of Weil’s litigation department.
Both Ali and de Gramont feature in The International Who’s Who of Commercial Arbitration.
