BLP welcomes projects specialist in London
Andrei Baev has left the international law firm Allen & Overy LLP to join as a partner in the London office of Berwin Leighton Paisner LLP.
After 11 years with the firm, Baev has said that his decision to move has been far from easy and is “not a reflection on A&O” but a development in his current circumstances. “I am leaving because an unexpected and very attractive opportunity has presented itself which resonates with me at a personal level,” he explains.
Baev has significant experience in multi-jurisdictional deals, with a focus on the development and financing of major oil and gas projects. Most recently he represented energy company Gazprom in connection with the South Stream Gas Pipeline Project and also acted on behalf of international oil projects company Trans-Balkan Pipeline BV in connection with the construction and project financing of the Burgas-Alexandroupolus cross-border oil pipeline project.
In his new role, Baev will continue to focus on Russian and CIS nuclear, mining and infrastructure/PPP projects, as well as international joint ventures, and will divide his time between London and Moscow.
Matthew Kellett, the managing partner of BLP’s finance department, said: “Andrei’s hire is another major move to expand the breath and scale of expertise we are able to provide in the infrastructure and energy arena. His extensive Russian and CIS experience will help broaden our offer to clients in the Russian market. These markets are growing strongly, particularly in the sectors in which Andrei specialises and his hire will ensure we have the capacity and skills in place to meet future needs across the region.”
Baev is featured in The International Who’s Who of Project Finance Lawyers.
