Germany: Insurance & Reinsurance

A key development in insurance and reinsurance law is the increase in regulation in the form of the EU Directive Solvency II, which aims to modernise supervision and increase the competitiveness of European insurers by requiring insurers to take account of all types of risk and manage them more effectively and with increased transparency. Lawyers are playing a key role in helping insurers understand these regulations and the compliance issues that derive from them. In this chapter we feature 15 leading individuals who are well equipped to deal with changes in the sector.

Bach Langheid & Dallmayr is a specialist firm in insurance and liability law and emerges as the leading firm in the country in this field with four lawyers recommended for their “high level of expertise”. Reinhard Dallmayr advises both German and international insurers and reinsurers and is active in the field of arbitration for reinsurance law matters. Theo Langheid specialises in both advisory and forensic work for domestic and foreign insurance companies. Managing partner of the firm, Peter Bach is a “brilliant litigator” in the field of personal insurance. Burkhard Jacoby is an insurance contract law expert with a broad knowledge of sectors including life, disability, health, accident and property insurance.
