Germany: Franchise

Despite the economic downturn, franchising has continued to grow at a fast pace in Germany due to entrepreneurs looking to start their own businesses and franchising being viewed as a relatively safe option. With both domestic and international franchises increasing their presence in Germany it is a particularly busy time for lawyers and we have selected 11 of the country’s best in this section.

Two lawyers feature from Noerr, distinguished for their “fine capabilities”. Karsten Metzlaff is “highly regarded” and is experienced in franchising and distribution law. Karl Rauser is “well versed” and a “valuable asset” to his clients.

PFP Prof Flohr & Partner Rechtsanwälte focuses its franchising practice on medium-sized businesses and earns two lawyer recommendations. Head of the practice Eckhard Flohr advises both national and international franchising systems and Albrecht Schulz is praised for his “long-standing experience”.

Marco Hero at Tigges Rechtsanwälte is consistently recommended in our research and advises on the establishment and expansion of franchise systems in Germany and internationally.

Günter Erdmann at Schlarmann von Geyso is “one of the best” according to our research and he maintains an active practice in both franchising and national and international distribution law. Sole practitioner Reinhard Böhner specialises in helping clients to restructure their franchise systems and is a co-founder of the European Franchise Lawyers Association.

At TCI Rechtsanwälte München, Ruth Dünisch is “well known” for her distribution expertise and she advises clients in a range of sectors from automotive to health and fashion. Helmuth Liesegang of LADM Liesegang Aymans Decker Mittelstaedt & Partner advises on the design and establishment of franchise systems and his clients include mid-sized companies and subsidiaries of listed foreign companies.

Kay Jacobsen, a founding partner of Jacobsen & Confurius, is commended for his “unwavering counsel” to franchisors and Jan Patrick Giesler at Meyer-Köring advises solely franchisors in respect to system design, management and international expansion.
