Brazil: Regulatory Communications
The mobile and broadband markets continue to drive growth in the Brazilian telecommunications sector, while the use of social media is quickly expanding. As host of the World Cup in 2014 and the Olympics in 2016, investment opportunities to develop the telecommunications infrastructure and expand the fixed line network and broadband network look set to increase along with a demand for experienced lawyers. Our research identifies 20 nominees who have shown an outstanding ability in this sector.
The regulatory communications team at Pinheiro Neto Advogados have earned a reputation for excelling in this area. Two lawyers have been selected for inclusion. Esther Donio B Nunes is an “ambassador” for Brazilian business, acting as an advisor to US and Canadian consulates, she also advises on a range of regulatory issues and is regarded as a “leading individual” by her peers. Raphael de Cunto is a former president of the Brazilian Computer and Telecommunications Law Association (ABDI), and a “highly valued” lawyer to his clients.
Mundie e Advogados is considered a leading provider in telecommunications. Elinor Cristófaro Cotait is a “top-tier” practitioner, recognised for her talent in regulatory work. Kevin Louis Mundie, at the same firm is “highly rated” among peers who consider him to be an “influential” figure in telecommunications.
Ricardo Barretto Ferreira da Silva, founding partner of Barretto Ferreira Kujawski e Brancher, has a longstanding reputation for his work in this sector. He is a former president of the ABDI. Fabio Ferreira Kujawski, a fellow founding partner is “renowned” for his work. He is an officer of the technology committee of the International Bar Association.
Two partners are selected for inclusion from the “highly praised TMT group at Koury Lopes Advogados. Karin Alvo is considered a “prominent lawyer” in the sector, while Guilherme L Ieno Costa is “eminent” in the field and vice-president of the Brazilian Association of Telecommunication and Technology Law.
Moshe B Sendacz of Machado Meyer Sendacz e Opice Advogados, an esteemed lawyer in this field, is a member of the Brazilian and International Bar Associations. Alongside him, Camila Borba Lefèvre is “highly commended” by her peers and clients, she is a member of the communications committee of the IBA.
Alberto de Orleans e Bragança is a “well regarded” practitioner at the firm Xavier Bernardes Bragança Sociedade de Advogados, with expertise in foreign investments and international financial transactions.
Carlos Ari Sundfeld a founding partner of Sundfeld Advogados has been an active participant in major legislative innovations including the general telecommunications law and the Brazilian model for an independent regulatory agency and he is regarded as a “very able practitioner”.
Floriano de Azevedo Marques Neto at the firm Manesco Ramires Perez Azevedo Marques Advocacia is considered an “outstanding intellectual” among his peers, and well known for his regulatory expertise. Umberto Celli Jr, an independent legal consultant, is distinguished for his scholarly expertise and extensive knowledge of the telecoms bar.
At Bitelli Advogados, the “impressive” Marcos Alberto Sant’Anna Bitelli has expertise in entertainment and media law. Marcela Waksman Ejnisman at Tozzini Freire Advogados is a corporate lawyer with a focus on telecommunications and technology industries and her “high calibre work” consists of both regulatory and commercial issues.
Regina Ribeiro Do Valle who has recently established her own firm, Regina Ribeiro do Valle Advogada, is a “well-known name” specialising in the telecommunications, media and entertainment and e-commerce industries.
Rodrigo d’Avila Mariano at Almeida Alvarenga e Advogados Associados provides regulatory assistance in procedures at the Brazilian National Telecommunications Agency, and is well known for his contracts expertise. Robson Goulart Barreto is a partner at the firm Veirano Advogados and is “well versed” in international corporate practice and has represented several clients in international commercial transactions.
Ewald Possolo Correa da Veiga, a “very strong lawyer”, is a partner at the firm Ulhôa Canto Rezende e Guerra Advogados and he is a member of the Brazilian Bar Association and the ABA.
