Nigeria: Aviation
In the past year, Nigeria has gained “category one” status from the US Federal Aviation Administration, allowing foreign registered aircraft to fly direct from Nigeria to the continental United States. This has boosted confidence in the nation’s aviation industry, and seen rapid developments in the legal sector. Seven lawyers have been identified as the leaders in this field.
Managing partner of Yomi Oshikoya & Co, Otunba Yomi Oshikoya is among the most highly regarded lawyers in the national aviation bar and is “very active” in accident defence matters according to his peers. Ayo Mafo is also well regarded at the firm and is widely considered to be “first rate” by our interviewees.
The “impressive” Adedolapo Akinrele SAN - managing partner of F O Akinrele & Co - is well respected by his peers and is cited as a “leading lawyer” in the aviation field. At the same firm, Adamu Usman is described as a “superb” lawyer who is distinguished for his work in foreign investment in Nigeria.
The “eminent” Lawrence Fubara Anga ranks very highly in this section. A partner at the renowned AELEX law firm, he has taken on high-profile, complex cases for major airline companies while also acting as an expert for the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, facilitating the drafting and reform of legislation.
Folorunsho Majiyagbe of JB Majiyagbe & Co is a widely respected figure in the aviation sector and a member of the Nigerian and International Bar Associations. Etigwe Uwa is an “outstanding” litigator, who is an established member of the Nigerian aviation bar.
