Most Highly Regarded Firms: Argentina 2008 - Aviation
After coming close to bankruptcy in 2001, Argentina's Aerolineas airline was nationalised earlier this year: a move that emphasises the importance government attaches to a stable aviation industry in the region.
Our research found eight lawyers who lead the field in the area of aviation law.
Argüelles & Asociados is the best represented firm in this section. "Highly respected" in Argentina, the firm counts Boeing among its clients and fields the "excellent" Agustin Tiscornia and Emilio Argüelles here.
Described as "the main player in Argentina" by one source, Elizabeth Mireya Freidenberg comes top in our research for this chapter. Freidenberg has argued technical and operative matters before the Argentine Aeronautical Authority as well as representing clients in registration and matters at the Argentine Aircraft Registry and defending airlines and their underwriters in personal injury, cargo and baggage claims.
Also highly rated is Eduardo Cosentino, founding partner of Langbehn & Cosentino. "A real authority" in the region, he specialises in aircraft leasing agreements as well as acting in numerous air accident cases including LAPA's high-profile air crash in 1999.
At Maciel Norman & Asociados, founding partner Rogelio Maciel received high praise from our respondents. Maciel's practice combines insurance and claims litigation with a "very strong" focus on finance.
The "very accomplished" Eduardo Cartasso at Lynch Cartasso & Massa was also highly nominated. Cartasso has represented Aerolineas since 2002 and also previously held the position of in-house counsel at LAPA.
Alfredo Pastor Sastre heads the labour, mining and aeronautical group at Cárdenas Di Cio Romero Tarsitano & Lucero and advises numerous airlines on regulatory and contractual matters, earning him a prominent position here.
Maria Bustamante of Marconi & Sanchez de Bustamante was described as "one of the best in the country" and placed well in our research also.
