Pinheiro Neto Advogados is “the best” law firm in Brazil according to our research. The firm’s presence in 22 practice areas demonstrates the breadth and depth of its expertise – an expertise that earns it 37 listings in the edition, and our law firm of the year award for Brazil for the sixth consecutive year.

Pinheiro Neto boasts four members of its corporate governance practice group in this year’s research. Henrique Silva Gordo Lang concentrates on advising company boards on governance matters during capital markets transactions, including IPOs, tenders, spin-offs and restructuring. He is a “worthy” inclusion in both chapters.

The “highly recommended” Fernando Alves Meira specialises in M&A, structured finance transactions and corporate governance matters. He also enjoys a listing in the M&A chapter, as does Carlos Alberto Moreira Lima Jr, who is described as “exceptionally good”.

Additionally, Alexandre Bertoldi features in the M&A chapter. He is managing partner at the firm and is the “number one” name in corporate matters. He is also lauded for his “fantastic” private funds work, acting for foreign investors and private entities. He features in the M&A and private funds chapters.

On the litigation side, the firm garners a trio of “excellent” lawyers. Celso Cintra Mori has more than 35 years experience advising and acting for clients in complex litigation in the administrative and judicial spheres. André Zonaro Giacchetta’s practice in centred on administrative and judicial litigation in the field of intellectual property rights, among other areas, and Gilberto Giusti is a “very bright guy” in civil and commercial litigation and domestic and international arbitration. Giusti earns a listing in the arbitration and litigation chapters. Alongside him in the arbitration chapter is Renato Stephen Grion who received many highly ranked nominations in the research. He features in the chapter as a dispute resolution “expert”, particularly in international trade law.

In project finance, Marcelo Viveiros de Moura is “very, very good in the field”, according to clients, with an emphasis on public-private partnerships. Ricardo Vieira Coelho “deserves to be in the list” as a renowned project finance lawyer with a focus on aviation and aeronautic deals, and he is also listed in the aviation chapter. Julio Cesar Bueno is a “standout” lawyer at the firm. His project finance and public procurement work is spoken highly of by peers. He is also noted for his construction practice, where his work is “well-liked” according to one interviewee. Additionally he has considerable experience defending technological companies in product liability suits. He features in those four chapters.

Life sciences, regulatory communications, mining, tax and trade and customs all feature two lawyers each. In the life sciences section, Camila Martino Parise and Angela Fan Chi Kung are highlighted for their “excellent” regulatory expertise. The firm has a “very strong telecommunications practice” in the form of Esther Donio B Nunes and Raphael de Cunto. In the mining chapter Carlos Vilhena is a “terrific practitioner” and a “trusted source for major international clients”. Adriano Drummond C Trindade is “a fantastic lawyer” with “solid industry expertise”. In the tax chapter the “top-notch” Luciana Rosanova Galhardo’s practice includes domestic and international tax planning, consulting and litigation, and the “superb” Ricardo Luiz Becker focuses his work on financial and securities transactions. Rene G S Medrado is “very active” in anti-dumping and World Trade Organization related cases and features in the trade and customs chapter, along with Mauro Berenholc.
