Roschier, Attorneys Ltd - Who's Who Legal 70

What is the Who's Who Legal 70?

Finnish firm Roschier was founded in 1936 by Åke Roschier-Holmberg who was joined shortly after by Arne Waselius.

Roschier, Attorneys Ltd in Who's Who Legal

In November 2001, the firm name was changed from Roschier-Holmberg & Waselius to Roschier Holmberg and then in 2006 to Roschier. The firm has a strong tradition of activity within the Finnish Bar Association with at least two past presidents among its ranks.

As one of the leading law firms in Northern Europe, Roschier is the winner of Who's Who Legal's Finnish law firm of the year award for the fourth time. The firm boasts 18 listed practitioners in this book who appear 31 times across 18 chapters.

Roschier is called on regularly for advice in some of the largest deals in the region. The firm's recent work includes advising Sunrise Acquisitions, controlled by Carlsberg A/S and Heineken NV, in the €13 billion acquisition of Scottish & Newcastle.

Exceptional Talent
Co-senior partner of Roschier, Axel Calissendorff, has been appointed the new solicitor to the King of Sweden as of 1 January 2009. He is based in Stockholm and features in the corporate governance and mergers and acquisitions chapters. He is highly nominated as "a trusted adviser" and joined in both chapters by Tomas Lindholm, "probably the most prominent lawyer in Finland". Lindholm is listed in six chapters, a feat matched by few others in this book. He is the sole representative for Roschier in the regulatory communications chapter.

Corporate Credentials
The M&A chapter contains one of Roschier's strongest showings with four practitioners listed here. Appearing alongside Lindholm and Calissendorff are the "extremely good" Ulf-Henrik Kull and Lennart Simonsen.

In the capital markets chapter, "stand-out practitioner" Lindholm is joined by Dimitrios Himonas. In the commercial litigation and product liability chapters Claes Lundblad and Lindholm make a strong pair, where Lundblad takes the top spot with the most nominations for the firm in this section. He joined the firm from Mannheimer Swartling in 2008 and is also listed in the shipping and maritime and commercial arbitration chapters.

Four Roschier practitioners appear in the competition chapter, including Kairo Wik who was described as "the star" by one source. Two other Finnish practitioners, Inga Korpinen and Janne Kairo, and Lars Johansson in Stockholm join him.

The management labour and employment chapter features three Roschier partners who have a "very strong reputation in this area". Robert Lakatos is listed alongside the "extremely skilful" Kaj Swanljung and the "brilliant" Eva Nordman-Rajaharju. Swanljung is also listed in the real estate chapter.

Other Areas
Two Roschier practitioners appear in the life sciences chapter. They are Nordman-Rajaharju and the "intellectual property guru" Rainer Hilli. The "excellent" Hilli was also a strong performer in the trademarks and patents research and is among the most highly nominated practitioners in Helsinki.

Roschier is also listed in the banking chapter thanks to Gunnar Westerlund. Vesa Rasinaho represents the firm in the corporate tax section and Mika Alanko and Sakari Aalto are listed in the environment, and internet and e-commerce chapters, respectively.
