What is the Who's Who Legal '70'?
Kromann Reumert provides more lawyers than any other firm for our Danish research. The firm has offices in Copenhagen and Aarhus, as well as a presence in London and Brussels. Almost 25 per cent of the firm’s turnover derives from international work, and it represents a large number of global clients such as Unilever, General Electric and Invensys. Kromann Reumert’s expertise is broad, the firm earns 28 listings across 18 practice areas.
FINANCE
The firm is particularly strong in the area of banking and finance; its reputation is due in no small part to the high esteem in which Jorgen Kjergaard Madsen is held by clients and peers. He appears in the banking and capital markets chapters, and was described to researchers as “outstanding”. He recently assisted Handelsbanken Capital Markets in connection with the privatisation/IPO of Faroese bank Føroya Banki and its listing on the Icelandic and the OMX Copenhagen Stock Exchanges. Marianne Philip is listed alongside Madsen in the capital markets chapter and is a “very fine lawyer”. She recently assisted Nordea Bank Danmark in connection with the listing of the Danish ship owner, Nordic Tankers. The firm also has multiple representatives in the project finance chapter. Kim Rasmussen was described as the “number one lawyer in Denmark and Ulrik Jacobsen also scored highly.
CORPORATE
Kromann Reumert’s corporate practice is similarly strong, and it represents the majority of the companies included in the OMXC20 index, as well as a large number of other major Danish entities including TDC, Carlsberg and Copenhagen Airport. Its “impressive track record” in M&A was commented upon, and in the past year lawyers from the firm acted for the owners and sellers of cosmetics and health-care retail chain Matas in connection with its sale. Henrik Møgelmose represents the firm in the mergers and acquisitions chapter. Jørgen Boe is regarded as an expert on corporate governance, praised for his advice to businesses on company and stock exchange law issues. In addition, Arne Møllin Ottosen is an “acknowledged expert” in the field of corporate tax, and as well as his work for the firm he is an external lecturer in international tax law at the University of Aarhus.
DISPUTES
In 2007, Kromann Reumert partners counselled in a substantial number of cases decided by the Danish Supreme Court, and in several hundred cases before other courts across Denmark and arbitration tribunals. John Jakobsen, of counsel to the firm, appears in the commercial litigation research, where he was particularly well regarded for his insolvency expertise.
TRANSPORT AND RELATED FIELDS
Shipping and maritime law is another area in which the firm performs well: two partners are included in the final listing. Henrik Thal Jantzen was described as the “go-to guy” in Denmark, and heads the firm’s maritime and transportation group. He is joined by Lars Rosenberg Overby, a “hot shot” who works extensively for insurance companies on issues relating to cargo damage and wreckage. The firm also has two representatives in the aviation chapter. Carsten Raasteen was picked out for his knowledge of the purchase, sale and lease of aircraft and of the setting-up and operation of airline businesses, while Jens Rostock-Jensen also performed well. A “leader in the field” in Denmark for product liability defence work, he also appears in a third chapter: insurance and reinsurance. He was highly recommended for his work on behalf of insurance companies, and his reinsurance practice is “extremely well regarded”; Rostock-Jensen handles cases on behalf of both ceding companies and reinsurers. In the same chapter, Morten Samuelsson’s work in front of the Supreme Court was noted, and Christina Neugebauer also appears as a “top-notch practitioner”.
COMPETITION, REGULATION AND COMMUNICATIONS
The competition chapter also identifies three lawyers from the firm. Morten Kofmann is a “very impressive individual”, who was picked out for his work on behalf of SAS in the global air cargo inquiry undertaken by the European Commission, US Department of Justice and other enforcement agencies worldwide. Erik Bertelsen worked alongside Kofmann for ELSAM in a case concerning alleged excessive pricing, while Jens Munk Plum was involved in Toyota’s recent successful appeal to the Competition Council. Torben Waage is recognised as an “authority” on the procurement of telecommunications services and equipment, and appears in the regulatory communications chapter, while Vagn Thorup gives the firm a presence in the internet and e-commerce research. Thorup’s transactional work drew high praise and the firm has a “strong profile in the area”; it has worked on outsourcing deals for Danske Bank and TDC in the last year, as well as acting for Cisco, HP and Capgemini on the vendor side.
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AND OTHER AREAS
Kromann Reumert is represented in both chapters relating to intellectual property. Nicolai Lindgreen is an “expert” in patent litigation, particularly relating to life sciences, and sits on the Danish Patent Office’s advisory boards for patent and trademark law. Dorte Wahl is “absolutely first class” for pharmaceutical trademark work, and appears in the corresponding chapter. In the labour and employment research Helene Amsinck and Claus Juel Hansen are included. Amsinck is known for her advice relating to transactions and to the restructuring of companies, as well as for her litigation in the field. Hansen’s transactional work was also consistently recommended, as was his work on behalf of domestic and international clients regarding stock options, share incentives and benefits. Kromann Reumert also has two partners in the real estate research. Flemming Horn Andersen heads the firm’s practice group, which is “very well known in the local market”, and he is joined by Niels Balslev.
