What is the Who's Who Legal 70?
Law Firm of the Year – Denmark
Eleven years after its formation, Kromann Ruemert has grown to encompass four offices across Europe and 320 lawyers, with new additions every year. This year marks Kromann Reumert’s seventh win of the law firm of the year award for Denmark. Our research identifies 42 outstanding lawyers in 23 practice areas, a significant increase of 10 new inclusions from last year’s research. The chapters in which the firm predominantly features are capital markets, internet, competition, M&A, and labour and employment.
Capital markets represent an area of particular strength for the firm. Four Copenhagen based lawyers stand out for their practice in this area. Christian Lundgren is “highly thought of” for his trend-setting capital markets knowledge. His emphasis is on regulation and he acts for clients in the public sector as well as private corporations. He also appears in the M&A chapter alongside Jorgen Madsen, who received many nominations from international peers for his practice in established capital markets, banking law and corporate governance as an insider and takeover adviser. Madsen enjoys an appearance in those four books. Marianne Philip is a “first-class” capital markets lawyer with a focus on stock exchange law, matters relating to articles of association, shareholders and groups of companies. Ian Tokley has nearly 30 years experience representing clients primarily in leveraged finance and debt capital markets work, with a particular emphasis on domestic and foreign banks in Denmark.
The firm has the largest IT and outsourcing department in Denmark and is regarded as an innovator in the field. Søren Skibsted specialises in IT and outsourcing, representing clients on matters such as contentious and non-contentious IT procurement and e-commerce transactions. Lau Jørgensen is “well respected and referred to” by his fellow peers for his extensive knowledge in the area. Jan Hvarre handles IT, intellectual property and marketing law matters. Vagn Thorup received many high ranking nominations from fellow IT practitioners, demonstrating his international reputation and “well known” practice.
On the competition side, the firm features Morten Kofman who provides advice on EU and Danish competition law, with a particular emphasis on merger regulation, enforcement and investigations. Jens Munk Plum appears in both the competition chapter, for his work on merger and price control and dominance, and the public procurement section for his work in financing. Erick Bertelsen is the “leading” Danish lawyer according to interviewees. He has developed an “excellent” practice, lauded internationally by competition economists and in-house counsel.
In addition to Lundgren and Madsen, Henrik Møgelmose is a member of the firm’s M&A team. He represents Danish and foreign industrial and financial companies and equity consortiums in connection with acquisition and sale of businesses, including tender offers for listed companies and auction processes, among many other areas.
The firm is well represented in the labour and employment chapter. The “exceptional” Helene Amsinck is based in Aarhus. She focuses on reorganisations, restructurings, redundancies and conflicts. In Copenhagen, Marianne Granhøj is “first-rate”. Her clients are mainly in the pharmaceutical, life sciences and IT industries. Claus Jule Hansen regularly represents clients in litigation and arbitration on share options, pay, directors’ rights and transfers.
In addition to Madsen, Jørgen Boe features in the corporate governance section. He is “a household name” for his focus on company boards and directors’ rights in Denmark.
Kromann Reumert performs well in our insolvency and restructuring chapter. Lisa Bo Larsen and Søren Jensen are “very well reputed lawyers within the field of insolvency law and restructuring” according to our sources.
The firm offers several further nominees in the aviation, banking, environment, insurance, life sciences, oil and gas, tax and trademarks chapters.
