The firm has a strong dispute resolution practice with three listings in both the arbitration and commercial litigation chapters. In particular, Kaj Hobér and Robin Oldenstam stand out for their contentious work and feature in both sections. The “brilliant” Oldenstam co-chairs the firm’s dispute resolution group as well as chairing the Swedish Arbitration Association and Hobér is “first rate”.
Mannheimer Swartling also has a respected aviation team. Jan Dernestam is lauded as a “leading” finance lawyer and his practice includes advising on the cross-border leasing of aircraft. Sven Unger is also recognised in the field. Chair of the firm’s banking and finance practice group, André Andersson is regarded as a “finance guru”. With over 20 years of experience in financing matters, he is listed in the aviation, project finance, banking and capital markets chapters. Finance is one of the firm’s strong suits and Mattias Lampe also achieves multiple listings in both the capital markets and banking chapters. Specialising in finance and debt capital markets, his focus includes securitisation and other asset-backed financing. Joining him in the capital markets section is Eva Hägg. Chairman of the public M&A and equity capital markets practice group, in addition she is “highly regarded” for her M&A and private funds work. A specialist in securities and company law, she has a focus on public company transactions. One of three names in the M&A chapter: the “incredibly talented” Biörn Riese is chairman of the board and head of global M&A and insolvency, and he bolsters his entry with additional mention in the corporate governance and regulatory communications chapters.
A trio of names receive recognition for their competition expertise. The “highly respected” Johan Coyet works with the notification of concentrations to the European Commission and national competition authorities. Joining him are Tommy Pettersson and Johan Carle, who co-chair the firm’s EU and competition law practice group. Pettersson’s clients include both Swedish and international clients and Carle’s practice has an emphasis on issues relating to merger control and abuse of dominant position. He also deals with public procurement, in particular the appeals process, and is listed in the corresponding chapter.
The firm also distinguishes itself in the environment, internet and e-commerce, life sciences, real estate and corporate tax chapters, placing itself firmly among the global elite.
Mannheimer Swartling is the leading Nordic law firm and regularly represents many of the region’s, and the world’s, most prominent organisations. We are not, and never have been, all things to all people, and our clients typically come to us with their most demanding and important assignments. We see our primary role as being a constructive partner and trusted adviser to our clients: a means to their business ends.
Mannheimer Swartling is an independent, full-service firm with an extensive international practice. The firm is based principally in Sweden, but with eight offices abroad we also have a substantial international presence. With a broad international network in addition to our foreign offices, we have extensive experience in managing international teams.
Each of the firm’s approximately 400 lawyers specialises in specific fields of business law and many focus on particular industries. As a result, our lawyers are able to contribute added value to our clients’ transactions with both cutting-edge expertise and solid industry knowledge.
Our core M&A, banking, capital markets and dispute resolution practices are frequently cited as the market leaders. In addition, we set out very early to establish high-level expertise in essentially every area of commercial law, primarily to support our transactional practices. These areas have now developed into strong – indeed, market-leading – practices in their own right. For instance, the firm has Sweden’s leading tax, environmental, competition and real estate practices, and enjoys a prominent position on the market in construction, employment, energy, insurance, intellectual property, information technology, and shipping and transportation. We endeavour to remain at the forefront of industry and regulatory developments in order to advise our clients on issues that are growing increasingly important as the world grows more complex. Examples of recent market-leading innovation include establishing two practices over the past couple of years: one dedicated to climate change and the other focusing on corporate compliance and investigations.
Mannheimer Swartling’s ability to maintain its leading position owes much to our ability to recruit the best people, our strong emphasis on skills development, and a culture built around our all-equal, true partnership compensation system. The firm consistently tops the league tables and ranks highest in client and industry surveys conducted in Sweden – testimony to the fact that we understand and effectively live up to the demands of our clients year after year.
