What is the Who's Who Legal 70?
Law Firm of the Year – Germany
Hengeler Mueller has 32 listing in 11 chapters of this book and takes our award for German law firm of the year. Representatives from four German offices feature alongside nominees based in London and Brussels. Hengeler Mueller ranks in the “elite” band of German law firms in the “GCR 100” and fields a contingent of six lawyers in this chapter.
Düsseldorf-based Jochen Burrichter “is absolutely first class” and one of the most highly regarded antitrust practitioners in Germany. Also in Düsseldorf, Christoph Stadler is “brilliant” and Thorsten Mäger is “thorough and effective”. Horst Satzky in Frankfurt is also very well known, while in Brussels, Hans-Jörg Niemeyer is highly rated, and Alf-Henrik Bischke is “bright, thoughtful and a pleasure to deal with.”
Several members of the firm’s corporate and financial teams achieve multiple listings. Maximilian Schiessl is the firm’s “leading light” in both the M&A and corporate governance chapters, ranking among the most highly regarded practitioners in both. Michael Hoffmann-Becking and Oleg de Lousanoff also feature in both chapters. Hans-Jörg Ziegenhain completes the M&A listings while Klaus-Dieter Stephan and Gerd Krieger add to the firm’s presence in the corporate governance section. Three from Frankfurt – Thomas Cron, Stefan Krauss and Hendrik Haag – are “wonderful names” in the banking and capital markets chapters, and Martin Geiger and Torsten Busch also feature for their capital markets practices. Three lawyers feature in the corporate tax section, including Friedhelm Jacob who has a “great reputation” in Frankfurt. Edgar Wallach and Thomas Paul are in the “top tier” of the private funds chapter according to our research.
Hengeler Mueller lawyers specialising in employment, natural resources, environment, life sciences and dispute resolution also feature prominently, demonstrating the breadth of “first-rate” expertise the firm has to offer.
