Hengeler Mueller - Who's Who Legal 70

What is the Who's Who Legal 70?

Law Firm of the Year – Germany

Hengeler Mueller in Who's Who Legal

With 39 listings across 13 legal practice areas, Hengeler Mueller enjoys an additional seven partner inclusions on last year’s results. The firm houses 250 lawyers in its offices in Berlin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich, Brussels and London, ranks in the elite band of German law firms in Global Competition Review’s “GCR 100” and retains its title of Who’s Who Legal’s German Law Firm of the Year for 2011.

Over the past 12 months, Hengeler Mueller has handled antitrust matters for the likes of Rabobank, Deutsche Bank, Schering and E.ON. The firm’s talent for competition is borne out in our research with seven industry-leading lawyers featuring in this chapter – the largest contingent from the practice overall. Düsseldorf-based Jochen Burrichter is “one of the industry’s finest” and “loved by clients for the superb work he does”. Christoph Stadler is a “fantastic lawyer” and in Brussels, Alf-Henrik Bischke is a “terrific, meticulous practitioner”.

The firm’s engine is very much its corporate and financial practice with several members achieving listings in multiple chapters. Six names feature for their corporate governance expertise, including “superstar”, Maximilian Schiessl. Michael Hoffmann-Becking is a “leading name”, with “vast expertise” in corporate transactions, restructurings and compliance issues, and the “excellent” Oleg de Lousanoff completes the trio of names who enjoy listings in both here and in our M&A findings.

Five lawyers are selected for their capital markets know-how. Sources applaud Hendrik Haag as “second to none”. Thomas Cron is “top-notch” and the “highly skilled” Stefan Krauss received reams of international commendation. All three also feature in our banking chapter, praised for their finance pedigree.

The firm features prominently in our corporate tax section. Friedhelm Jacob has “an unrivalled depth of expertise” and is one of the most highly regarded practitioners in our international research. Two “top tier” lawyers, Edgar Wallach and Thomas Paul are included in our private funds section.

Further prominent listings in our employment, insurance, life sciences, litigation, environment, patents and oil and gas chapters, demonstrate the broad-ranging, internationally recognised expertise at hand at this “first-class firm”.
